As we look forward to the 2023 Dinner at The Westbury on Saturday January 28th. we can “whet our appetites” by looking back at some photos from previous Dinners below.
If, by any chance, you have not yet booked for Saturday week you can still do so by contacting John Cullen on 087 2312728 or [email protected] or me, Jim Conway, on 087 2557298 or [email protected]. Tickets are €70 each and you can pay directly to the PPU bank account or at the door on the night. We will aim to be seated for 7pm and we will have a bar open in the room adjoining the Dining room from 6pm as we did in April.
This year our raffle will be more “low key” than previously. The committee is conscious of the fact that members were extremely generous by way of sponsorship and purchase of raffle tickets when we held our Covid delayed dinner in April last. This time around, we are asking members to donate something small, like the “bring a bottle or unwanted Christmas present” system of previous years. You will find envelopes on the tables and we will ask guests to write their names on them and put in a donation of no more than €20.
An interesting feature of this year’s dinner will be presentations by the PPU of bursaries to assist two students who graduated last year, with their third level study expenses. It will be interesting to hear from the recipients and to see how members’ donations are being spent to benefit our old Alma Mater.
The highlight of the evening promises to be the presentation of the PV Doyle trophy for Row Person of the Year to Gerry Davey. It will soon be all of 60 years since Gerry scored the goal to win the 1963 All Ireland Football for Dublin. We are hoping to secure some footage of the match and to show it on the Westbury big screen. Frank Whelan is working on that at present.
